  • Overview

    The Support Engineer will offer technical support to new and existing customers. This will include assising customers with the installation and operation of the suite of communication software, and supporting customers in the use of satellite transceivers and routing solutions provided.



    • Provide Post-sales technical support by email and telephone.
    • Provide support to customers installing systems in the field with visits to vessels/remotes.
    • Provide Pre-sales support to potential and existing customers.
    • Provide user training (when applicable) to the end users/resellers.
    • Install Inmarsat/Iridium/VSAT terminals on commercial vessels/at remotes.
    • Install provided and third party application software on vessel computers or at remotes.
    • Monitor key performance indicators of the operational network.
    • Provide remote management of operational servers.
    • Create, maintain, and package hardware installation / usage documentation.
    • Use Globecomm and third party provisioning systems for provisioning of services and troubleshooting network issues.
    • Use the Globecomm ticket system/s to keep records of support activity.
    • Provide desktop and server support (Microsoft, MacOS, *nix).
    • Assist with the testing inhouse-developed applications prior to release.
    • Use MySQL for data extraction and management.
    • Travel as needed - both domestic and international.
    • Provide after hours support services, including weekends, on a weekly rotation.



    • 2-5 years of experience working within a technical support environment.
    • Familiarity with Iridium, Inmarsat (Fleet, BGAN and FB), and VSAT satellite transceivers.
    • Good understanding of VSAT & Broadband technologies.
    • Strong knowledge of Maritime Satellite Communications software suites.
    • Strong TCP/IP network knowledge.
    • Intermediate Linux Administration.
    • Excellent administrative, written and verbal communication skills.
    • Excellent customer relationship skills.
    • Positive attitude and willingness to be flexible. 
    • Ability and willingness to travel up to 10%, domestic and international.

    Valued but not required skills and experience:

    • BSc in Satellite Telecommunications, Wireless Transmission Technologies, or related electronics/networking technologies.
    • Knowledge of low speed communication technologies including modems and RS 232 serial interfaces.
    • Experience installing communications equipment on commercial vessels.
